Question

Moving A Staircase?

Hi,

I'm a new homeowner, we just bought a 1953 ranch, we're very excited...But the main issue is that the (ugly) galley kitchen, in the front of the house, is separated from the living room & dining room by a thick wall that includes the stairs to the basement.

Our lives would be so much happier in this house if we could move the stairs. Is that even possible? Can you all give me a price range?

Sorry if this is an inappropriate question in this forum, I'm just trying to do some research.

Thank you!!

Laura

Yes, it's possible. This kind of stuff is done all the time. What's impossible is for someone on the internet to give you a price range without seeing your house and what's involved or what's in the way, such as plumbing, electrical, hvac, etc. Is your basement finished? You would have to have someone look at it for you or post a bunch of pictures showing everything there.

Call a few local contractors and get estimates....unless they charge for the time, you will have the answers and issues for free.
