Mortar Too White
I laid a curved retaining wall for a lady about 3 months ago. I used a manufactured rumbled rectangular "stone". She liked the job I did, but both she and I thought the mortar was too white. For convenience I used a bagged premixed mortar, Sakkrete, I think.
Will this mortar eventually turn gray? The wall is only 2ft. high. What would happen if I sprayed the entire wall with a deluted stain. She wants that rustic "been there forever look". |

Re: Mortar Too White
the mold, moss, lichen and weathering should takeover in a few years, other than that maybe a concrete stain brushed over the joints in the stone to darken the mortar? ?

Re: Mortar Too White
I've heard stories of new tiled roofs that have been "painted" with yoghurt to encourage the growth of mold/moss etc. Never tried it myself but if the walls fairly small you could try brushing over the joints. I reckon Strawberry would be best !
