Mono Slab Question?

Job calls for a 30 x 49 mono slab. It will have 12" deep footers 2' wide around perimeter with rebar etc... My Question this the slab will have a metal building on it 30 x 50 with slab on the end outside area attached making the total length 62 ft. should I pour this extension of 30 x 12 as a separate pour or will it break off if i try to go from a monoslab into a 4 inch to 6 inch pad? Thanks for your replies and I know all you concrete experts will give good advice.

Re: Mono Slab Question?

I would not pour the approach slab with the main building slab. I am a little confused by the description, but most steel buildings have specific details, like a sheet ledge and anchor bolts set on specific points, as well as door trays, etc. Since the building covers the main slab, and the driveway or approach pad would be lower then the main slab by 2 inches, it would be a pain to form the sheet ledge and door trays on a mono pour. Another factor would be the heating and cooling of the outside slab compared to the building slab....and you would cut a control joint anyway...just make it easy on yourself and make 2 pours.

I would pull rebar pins out of the form to tie the outside slab to the main floor.

Re: Mono Slab Question?

Agreed.... Do it in seperate pours with rebar pins in the main slab to tie in the outside slab.

Re: Mono Slab Question?

Thanks for the reply everyone. I'm gonna pour it as a separate pour after metal building is constructed.
