Question

Mighty Anvil ??

Today being what it is, and without getting into a political debate, I would like to ask Mighty Anvil's opinion. 1) What went wrong with the design/construction of the WTC's ?? 2)Why did the elevator shafts come down at the same time as the main structure?? Thanks.

Re: Mighty Anvil ??

I know you aren't asking for other's opinions here.....but from what I've heard from my engineering teachers, one said that if the exosketelon(steel beams) were concreted in(or higher or something).....it might have stopped them from "melting" during the heat.

There was something else he said too.....but I can't remember what. Something on the sort of it was only designed to stand for 100 yrs....or wasn't made to withstand a floor/hurricane.......I dunnno what he said now....

Either way, what a tragedy......god bless everyone.....and thank you for the troops that are defending us.

Re: Mighty Anvil ??

From what i have read and seen on a documentary over the construction of the towers, the steel skeleton of the towers were clad or cased in a fire resistant material....asbestos?...and the the actual shock of the crash, plus the intense heat (3000 degrees +) cause the progressive failure of the skeleton...as load bearing collumns failed and their load was transfered, ultimate overload led to the collapse....I guess they are assuming the fire protection of the skeleton was compromised by the crash and of course, with the sprinkler system inoperable from the crash, the failure was inevitable.

How could any engineer have known in the years past they would have to design a building for deliberate plane crashes? I understand they did consider the possibility, based on a crash of the Empire State Building, but the model was based on a 707, and a full fuel load wasn't considered, nor a "arrow like" shot in the middle.

I remember well and always will, what I was doing when the story broke...I bet everyone reading this will remember as well.

"plus the intense heat (3000 degrees +) "

There was no heat of that intensity, kerosene doesn't burn that hot. I just listened today to a guy who walked down from above the crash floors to the ground past the fire and said you could see it, but it wasn't hot, just smoky. Nothing in that building was hot enough to melt steel, let alone keep it molten for two weeks in the ground afterwards.

I might have the number wrong, it has been awhile, but I know I was surprised at the number. You are correct, kerosene will not sustain a temperature anything close to that. Jet engines can attain 1500 degrees easily, but not 3000..

I have been in a few fire damaged buildings where the red iron was still standing...and had lost all it's tensile strength....fire is not compatible with structural steel.

I saw a clip of some guy talking about the towers were not dmamged that severly, and "planted explosives" were used to implode the towers, since the crash and burning fuel was in no way enough to cause the building failure. Where do they find these clowns?
