Las Vegas Residential Building Boom ??
We are a well established Mechanical contractor in Colorado. Business is good but we are considering relocation to Las Vegas due to some really big family problems.... Is the residential boom still on in Vegas and does anyone know what kind of demand there is for a new Mechanical contractor..

Re: Las Vegas Residential Building Boom ??
I don't work in Vegas but I go there several times a year for different reasons (there is no need to go into details)
I see that there is need for any trade contractor as much as any growing city does in the country. The real estate business has slowed there considerably, construction didn't dip in as much, but the good news is everything's going to bounce back sooner than later! Good Luck! |

Keep your eye on the hoover dam bypass. Builders are already starting in White Hills and Golden Valley, just across the AZ border. |

Hey Joe whats it like for framers out there is it busy there for them as well ? I like the fact that you have to be licensed thats not required in IL seems like any yahoo can throw a sign on a truck and call them self a sub especially non citizens.

Re: Las Vegas Residential Building Boom ??
LOL, I'm from IL and sure could use some of their lenient contractor laws right now.
I can't even begin to pretend to know how it is for framers. If you're looking to start your own business, you'd better do the research. Most of the casinos use union. There's work for the bigger companies, whether union or not. I don't hear a lot about residential, Horton is out here as well as a couple of other national res. builders. But that's slowed down quite a bit. As far as going on your own, be aware that about 7000, yup, 7000 people come and go from vegas every MONTH. And there are lots and lots of non-citizens. You want to be a forman, you need to know another language. As a resident, it takes a couple years to be accepted as a "local". As a carpenter, just jump on in, with all the people coming and going, it's easy to find people from Chicago. You'd have as good a chance as any, especially if you hustle. You might want to have some contacts first though. But don't look at me, I've been here a year and still learning who's who in the painting world. Land on the east side of Hoover dam is going up in cost, the housing market is slowing down. And I've talked to a couple indepenant c'penters who want to build east of Hoover, but they are waiting for the "real" boom. My opinion is that I would buy land now and hang on or do tract housing. The c'penter/painter rivalry is especially nasty out here. Last edited by Joewho; 04-02-2007 at 01:00 PM. |
