Dear contractors,
I am a newbie in constructing pool..please guide me through it. I heard pool's constructions are different than normal building construction. the problem with pools are it cracks and once it cracks the whole pool must be renovated. so i need a solid pool base and waterproof base. any advice and suggestion dear contractors have to offer? thank you |

2 options
a) 1. dig a hole 2. do a rain dance b) 1. decide on type of pool construction (vinyl-lined, fiberglass, or Gunite) 2. hire a pro |

Pay particular attention to option B, number 2. The vinyl lined pools look easy when you watch an experienced installer, but there are many nuiances to them for a nice job. The fiberglass shells are also not as simple as the person trying to sell you just the shell would make it sound (dig a big hole, drop in the shell, and backfill), and I have heard quite a bit of problems with cracking on them. And a gunite pool is definately not the place to start your first pool experience. We have a guy who worked for a large local pool builder for 6 years, and have done a couple of pools "in house" over the last few years, but they just are not worth the trouble IMO. Like everything else, there is a short list of "quality" pool sub trades, and then there are the rest(best avoided). The quality guys are not going to give much priority to you at the risk of alienating their regular pool pros who give them a steady stream of work. |

You're joking right? Did you just wake up this morning and decide to be a pool construction contractor? Usually you work for someone for many years in the trade that you are interested in and then when you think you know it all, you go out on your own and fail miserably. Just kidding about the last part. Seriously, the internet is a great thing but you're not going to learn a trade here.

I know how to get a pool built...since Ray's favorite movie is "The Godfather", I intend to kidnap him and make him an offer he can't refuse......ok Ray?

Re: How To Make A PooL From Scratch?
In case of pools, the biggest problem is seepage of water,Water always cause problems so better make the sides and base waterproof with the best available material..there cant be any compromise in this...
And mind you it is not a simple job,its a specialized job....

Re: How To Make A PooL From Scratch?
seepage & leaks are the least of the problems.....
this is how you make a pool from scratch...... give the pool contractor some scratch & he will make a pool.

Re: How To Make A PooL From Scratch?
Multiple well points is how we do it in FL. Make sure to tie the deck to the shell well, big weak point.

Re: How To Make A PooL From Scratch?
bonding deck to the shell is a big NONO, if you are in freeze thaw regions... the deck will take out the coping tile & bond beam....

Re: How To Make A PooL From Scratch?
seepage of water (or any leaking) is by far not the worst that can happen ...
