How to deal with a crappy boss??!!
I recently started a new construction job, and have the worst boss i have ever had in my entire life. his name is trevor!!!
He is always on at me...i have to write a report after every day on what i have done, he is also very strict about lunch breaks, even if i take a few minutes extra. this is understandable as he is trying to run a successful buisness etc.. but i think it is a bit too much, and i do get demotivated when he does do this. he would probably get more out of me if he was more laid back.
any help?????

Give me a break. My guy's write a report everyday... I NEED it for billing. It's part of the job. Why are you taking long lunch breaks on a new job? Get your $h!t together, go to work, have a little pride in your job. This isn't Disneyland. I wouldn't be "on at you", I'd can your a$$ for being a lame-o. The good news is... it's not too late to change your attitude. I hope for your sake it's not anyways.

your just starting a new job, bust your ass to solidify your job, take quick lunches, offer to stay late, work weekends,
as a new guy the only time id take a long lunch break is if the foreman says its ok because its a slow day and your waiting for materials to show up

Start your own company and run it into the ground anyway you see fit.
Until then you have 2 choices:
Put up or shut up.

I work for an asshole too......me. Just because a spend a few extra minute on the cell or talking to the customer doesn't give you the right too. Just might be that I'm creating more work for you. Why the hell should he pay you for the couple of extra minutes that you take on break?? Couple of minute here and a couple of minutes there and they add up to hours...time is money. From what I'm getting and the loyalty that your showing I'm guessing you may or may not be worth what he's giving you now

I concur with all the above statements. There truly are many contractors who will chew you up and spit you out and degrade you. This shouldn't be allowed in the work place but construction is often a dog eat dog environment. If he's abusive ,turn him in,but what you said he is expecting from you is not unreasonable by any means. All the more incentive to learn and run your own show eventually.Good luck.

Worst boss ever? At 21 - you haven't seen anything yet & yes - you should have stuck it our for that Marketing Degree. Oh wait, theres bosses & customers just like that no matter where you go.
No matter who you are or what you do in life, you will always have someone over you. Why should the IRS penalize me for being a day or two late? I was only going a couple of miles over the speed limit, etc...
If you were actually on time, & did what you were paid to do, would he be on your case? I doubt it & he would probably have time & the desire to show you different tricks of the trade & help you out because it helps him out. Just something to think about

',i We were flying...
Why didn't we make bonus? Let's do the math... Take a 5 man crew on a 2 month job.
(Not including Saturdays.)
1. You don't pay me until 7:00. Why should I get here at 1/4 of and help set'~p on MY
time = 50 hours.
2. 10 minute coffee break = 33.33 hours (IT'S THE LAW)
3. 10 extra minutes for break = 33.33 hours.
4. Walking to the trailer to get nails, tools, whatever you forgot to get when you set up
on MY time. (At least 15 minutes per day.)= 50 hours. .
5. 1/2 hour lunch we don't pay you anyway. It's your own time RIGHT. Add 10 extra
minutes.
Same as #3 = 33.33 hours.
6. We'll go back and do that afterwards. 15 Minutes to set up AGAIN = 50 hours.
7. I don't have any hand tools. Can I borrow yours? Minimum 5 minutes = 16.66
hours.
8. Why don't we stop at 1/4 past to roll the tools? Another 50 hours
LOST TIME 283.32 HOURS X $10.00 =$2,833.20 = $566.64/Man
Add in Saturdays and you gave away another 113.30ltnan
That's $2. 12/hour What's 10 minutes...
Lighten up

Show me the "law"....until then, no 10 minute coffee break for you...
show me where you are allowed a lunch break, until then - no lunch for you....
show me the law for an after noon break...say thank you and get yer arse back to work.

a crappy boss is one that pays less than industry standard, doesnt supply power tools, replace blades that you purchase when they burn up, asks you to goto the lumber yard pick up materials and pay with you own cash which you dont get back for weeks, and doesnt cover the gas you burn to pick it up, tells you to do something extremely dangerous without the proper saftey gear, laughs at you when you tell him that you and the rest of the crew doesnt feel comfortable using a tool which isnt safe, complains things are taking too long when he wont bring materials when you need them so your standing around waiting for material

You seriously must be trying for a new job as a comedian
Now, pay attention to the advice and let me add this: Times are going to get damned hard in some areas, and there will be some very talented and motivated guys that will run, not walk on the job, and will be there early, and take a short lunch....because they have a family to feed and will appreciate the job.
If you think your boss needs to lighten up, maybe you should think about how it would be if it was your name on the company trucks.
Food for thought: I had 3 calls last week from steel erectors wanting work....and probably 2 dozen calls in the last month from framers and concrete finishers.

I just hired a new kid...man, worst hire ever...if i didn't need the body, he'd be gone...usually a few mins late in the morning, always trying to take a long lunch....doesn't learn anything, always has to be told 5 times and still doesn't remember...as soon as you correct him, he sulks.....good thing this project is only going to last a few more weeks...

My guys mostly talked shop at lunch. After work they hung around an extra 15 to 20 minutes and talked shop. They went home to their wives and kids and talked some shop. (I was sorry about that). Sometimes we called them at night and talked shop. I could care less if they took a 20 cofee break and a 45 minute lunch. ...
Now i've recently been on a DB job where every minute was accounted for. I thought the whole operation had the biggest bunch of JO's i've ever been around.
