Hey Teetor And Other Hurricane Prone Guys

In the October issue of Qualified Remodeler they have a good section of articles about hurricane issues for builders, they spot light Mercedes homes down there and how they are building cast in place concrete walled homes and have done 8 years of hurricane follow up on their homes in combination with the university down there. Pretty cool stuff, they are moving past the structural issues since they have very little problems with structure, and now are focusing on water infiltration. Intreresting stuff on the vacuum effect that the winds cause and suck water into the homes in places water would normall not be able to penetrate due to gravity.

It seems they also have a prototype two story cast concrete home in the works, which I didn't even know what so ground breaking until I read about it.

Mercedes builds a good home but uses some deceptive marketing practices. We looked at a few before buying this place. They were advertising in our price range, showed us some homes and when we sat down to the table, discovered that the home price did not include the lot. Who ever heard of the lot being a seperate purchase with an exsisting home?

There is another developer (DiVosta) that has been building nothing but cast homes for over 20 yrs. My mother lives in one. I've never heard of one being damaged.

Thanks for the tip, I'll see if I can locate the issue.

There is a similar practice by a Developer up here D.B.J. rinse's you on "permit costs" which come out to 5 or 10 g's that they tack on after the home price and have a convienent way for you to pay it. 29 dollars a month for 30 years. No biggie right wrong it damn near doubles or even triples.
They hose their subs too.

Hey but they keep you busy all year long. LOL Because you can't afford to miss a check.
