Help With Large Bid-tub Surrounds

I need help formulating a bid for 360 tub surrounds at a large hotel.
We will get 10 rooms a day. im thinking 35.00 per man hour, times 4 men, times 10 hours a day. This bid seems a little low, any suggestions

thanks dave m

Re: Help With Large Bid-tub Surrounds

Well, there's a lot of factors that will affect your price, but two come to mind immediately:

- Can four guys do 10 tub surrounds in a 10-hour day? I'm assuming you're thinking of 2 two-man crews, which would mean each crew has to do 5 surrounds a day, or 1 every 2 hours. That sounds pretty aggressive to me when you consider the time to get the materials to the room, do the install, caulk, clean up, etc. I don't even know what material the surrounds are, and it already sounds aggressive.

- Where are you located? Here in NJ, you could barely pay the wages for the employees if you charged them out at $35/hour- forget about covering benefits, taxes, insurance, overhead, and PROFIT. Of course, if you're paying your guys $6/hour, maybe the $35 rate works.

Factors to also consider.

What will be your gas usage costs for this project?

What about issue problems that always pop up when you plan on doing 'production' related work. It's a fact of life.

Are you contracted to demo or dispose of any existing tub areas? This will also take time to do.

Are you factoring in the 'overhead' costs of your insurance on these guys that are working for you? The costs that you are paying your insurance company out of your pocket.

Are there additional tools or materials needed to purchase to run your 'crews'? Are you factoring the added costs that this is going to bring?

Are the crews going to have to do any kind of 'clean up' after they are done?
Will they have to dispose of cardboard packaging?
How far will they have to travel from drop off site? Room to Room? etc?

Is there a way that a 'cart' of some kind might be useful to use in this project. Should you factor in the purchase of items like that to make the process go faster?

Will a person from the hotel staff come up and unlock each room when you are done and ready to start the next room? Will you have to wait around for them to finish up what they are doing and then meet you at the next available room?

All of these things and more are going to soak up ALOT of time and additonal MONEY. Been there and done that.

-my 2 cents

Every time I have felt I bid too low... and I got the job, guess what... IT WAS TOO LOW. Check your numbers again and again. As well as listening to what all these other posters have said. There is some good stuff to consider in those.
