Hardie Siding Final Touches

Hello all,new to the forum, I have don't sine hardie in the past & have no problem going up in the gables but what about when you either have a piece of 1x4 hardie splitting the gables from the wall...I also have 1x4 hardie up against the soffit. My question is how do you install the final hardie plank as big nails will show? In the past, small jobs I just used trim nails & filled, painted etc..I'm using 8&1/4 prepaint this time..still use trim nails at top or what?
Thanks,Brian

Re: Hardie Siding Final Touches

I either use adhesive and 15ga finish nails or stainless siding nails and paint the heads.

Here on the eves they run the last course wild and I put the soffit J on top of it. IMO I think it makes a cleaner look.

Re: Hardie Siding Final Touches

We usually use aluminum soffit, but yea thatís the idea. Not sure if it applies to this project but I agree that it makes for a cleaner look when you can install the j overtop of your last course of siding.

I've seen that in vinyl but not aluminum. Both are fairly rare around here. Vinyl siding is prohibited by code in our city.

Funny around here you could have a multi
Million dollar home with a lot of brick and stucco and they'll throw vinyl soffit on it. It's all I do too

Re: Hardie Siding Final Touches

Yes, I agree. The aluminum soffit looks good. Also like pine or cedar soffit. Lots of time we will put bug screen then some clear 1x4 pine with 1/2Ē space, looks sharp. We generally use allura over hardie. I try to never use hardie trim....terrible stuff.
