Fed OSHA / Safety Question


a colleague advises that fed-OSHA is ramping-up with personnel to increase inspections and fines, purportedly the new administration's policy to increase its revenues. is anyone else hearing this?

Yes I believe so. I think I read it somewhere back from a news outlet. The new labor secretary wants it.

Nope - not true at all, the fines are meant as a deterrent only and to make sure that the employer does not get any ill gotten gains for shortcutting the policies & procedures that they should have followed.

Yes, they are ramping up enforcement, but they can not say publically that they are using them to gain more revenues as it violates some federal law someplace

OSHA plans on making 2010 a watershed year for them - citations for the end of 2009 were unprecedented. Maximum penalties are being doled out in more cases than usual
