That sounds nice and absolutely worth it if your making money painting cars or even building a high dollar show car for yourself. Ours is just for the vehicles we buy at insurance auctions and fix up for ourselves or for friends. Weve made no money with it, its only saved us money. But ive paid upwards of $7900 for an atv just for fun so its just what u like i guess.

I cannot believe what I have read in this thread. Using non-explosive fan motors, no filters, no fire suppression systems, Plastic sheeting. There is a reason for fire and building codes. You have violated most of the codes I am familiar with. I suggest your friend contact an insurance agent and see if he is covered for operating a business like this. Your friend should also think about increasing his personal coverage.

I am also suprised at the comments made by Digger and others who have no experience in body shops, or fire safety, but have seen the potential problems posed by this business, and the complete lack of fire and health safety. Listen to those comments. Want to know what happens when someone does not follow the codes? ourfallenbrother.org. Scroll down and you will see my company as a sponser of a tee. The Randy Carpenter Foundation is now helping educate firefighters in Oregon, Idaho, and Washington. I am proud to be a part of the effort, still really upset that a contractor and property owner were so concerned with saving a buck that 3 guys died in a fire.

If you want to flame me, call my cell phone instaed. 541.377.1143. I'll refer you to Randy's parents, his daughters, or his brothers.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the compliments, but to tell you the truth, I went to a trade school for body work. However, I have seen first hand the problems with this.

I have two good examples.

1) Early 80's Body Shop catches fire. Place is destroyed, a couple of firefighters hurt, not seriously thankfully. Fire burned for an entire day as we heard explosion after explosion.

2) About a year ago. Body Shop catches fire. Place is destroyed, but fire was put out within a few hours. Only Explosions were from the cars inside. This owner had built a Vault after his competitions fire in case #1

3) Guy painting cars as a hobby, INSIDE garage one winter night. Place blows up, takes out garage and house next door. (Garage was detached)

Some people don't like to see the real danger, because it is just "part Time" or for fun.
