EP&B Framing

Any opinions on EP&B framing for new construction residential (see: http://www.greenbuildingadvisor.com/...and-beam-walls )

It looks like it isn't approved in the IRC yet, so just wondering if anyone has done this, what issues they've run into with local officials , etc. If the local official made you get engineering approval how complicated/costly that is (I've only had to do it a couple of times for much smaller things).

Thanks!

Re: EP&B Framing

Did a little reading.

I did lots of similar walls in Alaska. I wonder if this calcs out less for shear? I see the sheathing has twice as many and longer nails.

Generally this type of wall requires a more carefully detailed vapor barrier. 6mil with tremco seams and sealed boxes and penetrations. In the PNW where kraft faced or even no face and just PVA primer acting as the vapor barrier, I could see dew point and condensation issues at the foam plane happening. Would require education and then additional labor to do a better vapor barrier.
