Dowell For New Slab To Old.
What is the desired depth to drill for reinforcing a new slab to an old slab, to join via rebar?
Any input or opnions on this. Hole size, depth, favorite epoxy, amount of dowells, spacing, etc. Last edited by 415moto; 08-12-2006 at 02:49 PM. |

Re: Dowell For New Slab To Old.
I am willing to throw my opinion into the matter here...
The minimum rebar should be of #4 grade (1/2") The Depth should be At Least 6-10" imbedment into existing concrete with a Minimum of 24" into the new concrete to tie in and I would advise using Simpson Epoxy ET-22 Depending on the length of slab to tie together, I would put a bar (Dowel) at every 2-3 ft to ensure a good Strong Tie in. For what it might be worth... Good Luck Good Luck

A little more info would be helpful, and what is going to be on this slab, etc.

'Typical' overlap at splices is 30 x the diameter of the bar.

Re: Dowell For New Slab To Old.
thanks for the info.
any and more opinions or directions to a specific code/shart/regulation would be also great. in my particular case, this was for a landing being extended 12 inches, (yeah thats it). so it went from being 7 feet from the house to 8 feet. about 12 inches thick which was depth of old slab. The cement guys doweled every 12-14 inches a long the face of the slab, 6 inches deep, set with a 2 part hilti brand epoxy. exposed bar was 8 inches into the new 12 inch slab. Its outside and not a living space. Not load bearing, strictly cosmetic. In either case, when new things I havent seen befire are done, I like to read up and get as much info as I can on it. |
