Dont Want It To Look Cheap
Looking for some ideas. Working on a quote for a basement remodel and the HO wants to put a window into an interior wall dividing on office from living space. There is a good amount of natural light in the basement and they want to let some of it into the office.
Question is how do I do this without making it look cheap/cheesy ? Ideas pics ? One Idea I had was using frosted glass but how to make it look high end ? |

Re: Dont Want It To Look Cheap
I remember doing a window many years ago in a Manhattan office, we actually made the window by hand at the shop and it was from floor to ceiling and acted as a divider wall. Created the mullions and used 6" wide x 8" high pieces of glass. This not only divides a part of the room but lets in maxim light. (Looks real good too)

Re: Dont Want It To Look Cheap
Frosted glass is pretty obscure and will block a lot of light, - - personally, - - I'd check with my local glass supplier for some samples that are more translucent, - - also, - - I'd provide a double-track slider (glass sliding in metal tracks) so the customer can have the easy option to let even more light in, or be able to speak out to the living space area.

Re: Dont Want It To Look Cheap
Put in a 44-ish slider for a kitchen
pass through. Ordered "rain glass" kind of like a shower door. Worked out really well, obscure, but still let maximum light through. Lady liked it....close it, and dirty dishes disappear like magic!

Re: Dont Want It To Look Cheap
My home-office looks into my game room. I have an 8040 picture slider in that wall. Same window coverings as in the game room.
I have a guest suite (2nd floor) that overlooks the indoor pool/tropical garden. It has one window overlooking the pool and another looking out onto a balcony. I've used the same windows I used for exterior windows. The design matches and everything works well. We use standard window coverings which allow a variety of configurations. |

Re: Dont Want It To Look Cheap
Celestory windows would look good and allow light through That is, a narrow band along the top of the wall.

Re: Dont Want It To Look Cheap
I took a pic of an interior window today since I remembered this thread. Simple pane of glass sandwiched between oak stops trimmed with 1x4 boards.

Re: Dont Want It To Look Cheap
Love glass block but in my opinion, it will look cheap in this application. Unless the existing basement would accommodate or dictate such a look.
