Question

Code Books??

Can anyone help me locate where I can buy standard building and plumbing code books? I live in New Jersey and really need to get them. Inspectors are really busting my chops over small stuff that if I had a code book to look it up would have been no problem at all. I just finished an ADA bathroom and the grab bars were installed as per the drawing, but the inspector wanted one moved over 1 1/2" and the other changed from a 24" to a 36" bar to comply with the ADA regulation. The inspector told me I built the bathroom exactly according to the drawings, but the drawings are wrong! He also said he would contact the architect and make him aware of the mistake.

I would just like to have these books to double check the code on some of these items as they come up in the future.

Thanks!

Lance

I know it's a 'little late' now, - - but you've got to avoid trusting ANY detail by 'someone else', - - best to check every little thing before-hand.

Re: Code Books??

Lance here is your code section SAG609.4 ADA grab bars

Where the requirement states a specified range, such as in §AG609.4

where grab bars must be installed between 33 inches and 36 inches

above the floor, the range provides an adequate tolerance and

therefore no tolerance outside of the range at either end point is

permitted.

Re: Code Books??

Thanks for all the replies. The inspector was kind enough to show me the code so I could make the appropriate changes.

Where I was working previously, the guy had the books and these were one thing that "slipped through the cracks" when starting up my business 7 months ago. I have already ordered them for future reference.

Thanks again!
