Beams In Basement
So I ordered some plans for a ranch with a footprint of approx 73' wide x 53' deep. I was looking at the basement plans and realized they put 5 beams in from front to back for a total of 13 columns! Why have a basement that size split up by all those beams? I'm going to consult an architect but was wondering if any of you knew why they did this instead of putting in one beam from side to side and laying the floor joists the other way.

Re: Beams In Basement
There has to be a logical explanation, but we'd have to see the plans, it's all about your bearing points from above.
