associate degree in construction management

Hi,
I am currently working for a roofing company in florida and really want to go to school for construction managment. There is a school where i am from that offers an associate degree in construction management. I was wondering if any one could give me an idea how helpful this degree would be. It is accredited by the American Council for Construction Educators. Most of the construction managment jobs seem to be wanting a bachelors degree. I just dont want to waist time getting an associate degree if it wont do me any good. Thanks for your help.

Will it do you any good? There is no knowledge that is not power. In just the few classes I have taken towards my degree, I have learned alot I did not know. I take a class here and there and by the time I am 35 I will probably have achieved my degree.

I tell anyone who ever asks a questions about college... It will definetly help, however no degree is your ticket to easy street. You still have to work hard and bust your butt and show competiency once you land your job. Many commercial companies won't hire office guys without college degrees. Some will take a gamble.

Don't let NOT having a degree hold you back from going after your dreams.

I agree with Grumpy. I have a college degree but not in construction. However it ALL helps.

My opinion is that if you really want to get into a college program for construction then call the University of Florida and speak with an adviser. It's a great school and has a great reputation.

For what it's worth if you haven't figured it out, you will, there is still the Good 'Ol Boy network here in Florida. Graduating from the UF program will almost certainly land you a job with great potential from one of the Good 'Ol Boys.

It's worked for my friend and others that I know.

Good Luck.

Well, you have to get an Associates before you get a Bachelors.

I would recommend going for a bachelors in civil engineering possiblely with a concentration in construction management. If construction management is what you really want to do this will open up a lot more doors. Quite a few guys I graduated with went this route and had no problems landing jobs for commercial cm's and gc's.

Going after the associate degree is not a waste, it's a starting point.
