Question

Anyone Know Where I Can Find A Stormdoor For A Door With Side Lights?

Hey All,
I have a customer that is looking for a storm door that will cover the door AND their side lights.
a regular storm door will not work because of the sidelights the door frame thinner and the door knob protrudes well past the frame.
Any ideas / suggestions or products anyone knows about would be a big help.

Thanks in advance

I don't know of any such animal as a storm door with side-lights, myself (although it sounds like a good idea), - - but I don't see where that would solve the (doorknob) problem, anyway.

I've run into this situation several times in the past and it boils down to a matter of just having to 'pack out' the existing brick-mold framework . . .

Door knob on side lights? I use my replacement window company for things like this. I promote the're storm door cause they will make fixed panel side light covers. If you have hardware that protrudes then do what Tom R says and pack the brick mould.

Emco use to make storm panels that match the storm doors that fit on sidelights. I only installed on set about 10 years ago and I would not do it again.

For your sidelight issue your mull strip should be around 2.25" away from your top brickmold? If so rip 5/4 kd stock, one piece a 2" and apply it to the mull and a second piece at 1.25" and center it on the mull, it will provide a reveal on both sides. IF you want I can dig up some pictures.

Thanks for the help, I assumed I needed to build the frame out just wasn't sure if there was a product out there that would fit without having to do that.

Thanks again

The 2nd layer should leave a 1/2" reveal on both sides.

Did you have any issues with the new storm door and the sill of the door?

No, the build out does not extend past the face of the sill. The doors can be ordered with the same build out from the factory.
