Alcove for Wood Stove

We have a project which will include an alcove for a wood stove. We are using a prefab class a steel chimney to take the heat out through the roof. That will go up into the top of the alcove. We were planning on using wood, but the clearances for the stove will make the alcove awkward, the clearance from the top of the stove to the ceiling is 67" so if we put a wood header over the stove to attach a mantle to it would be 67" from that plus the 18" the stove is lifted off the ground on a concrete hearth!! Thats over eight feet! My other option is steel framing but I don't want to do that because the alcove walls will be bearing the roof load. Another option is 4" block walls to stud walls higher up. Anyone have any input, I'd appreciate it. (Reducing Clearances per NFPA211 as far as I have read won't give me near the clearance I need to have a mantle and a tight alcove.)
