Air Filters For Remodels
Has anyone been using air filters durring remodel construction and can recommed a brand. I have just started a job for a family that is very sensitive to allergens and I would like to run some filters to cut down on the construction dust.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions. |

Re: Air Filters For Remodels
Wow, thats a pretty expensive machine! I dont know if I could justify spending that much.
I have a similiar situation right now where a client who wants a kitchen remodel (older couple) is highly allergic to airborn dust and allergens. I was just going to seal off the entire kitchen and with plastic and exit at the garage door. I was also going to buy a few larger fans to vent the dust out.

Re: Air Filters For Remodels
I have a delta I use just for this same reason. Keep in mind, the filter is going to fill up very fast with construction dust. My delta is a two stage filter system (has two filters). After the inner (the expensive filter) filled up I just threw it out. I just put on a prefilter now. usually get one from Home Depot that doesn't fit exactly (the ones made for the delta are expensive) and tape it on. I have to replace it several times during a job, especially during demo. Another note, when this thing is on it moves ALOT of air, so it kicks dust up from the exhaust. Best thing to do is to get some tubing and attach it to the exhaust to vent to the outside...I'm in process to do this now. Northern Tools sells them www.northerntool.com (tubing). Amazon sells the machines. good luck

I agree with using the little delta machine but also add an additional filter media over the outter most filter, also if the house uses forced air put filter media over the return grilles to stop from causing problems with the HO equipment.

Re: Air Filters For Remodels
Drieaz is one manufacturer and there are others. Basically a negative air machine is like a big vacuum cleaner it sucks in a large volume of air and exhausts it. The filters in the machine clean the air as it passes through.
Years ago when I was managing construction on a large commercial building one of the contractors had built his own negative air machine to clean the air. This was before you could buy the commercial machines. He had taken the blower out of an old central HVAC system, enclosed it in a plywood box on wheels and mounted furnace filters in the sides of the box. A length of flexible duct attached to the exhaust on the box vented the air out of a window. When turned on this unit pulled smoke, dust, spray paint over-spray and other debris from the air into the filters. Although his system was not HEPA it did a remarkable job and cost little more than labor to construct. |

Re: Air Filters For Remodels
I posted a job that I did a few years ago with the same problem. I did what you want to do, isolate the area and go to work. Hire a pro clean-up crew at the end.
I did 2 more jobs for these people as they moved from place to place.
