Back home I used to work for someone we did flooring exclusevly.

We found some interesting things when removing old flooring.

Found old newspapers as vapor bariers etc.

Standing there reading stuff before I was born.

Even at my age I wish could afford to move some where and apprentice at like an old Vicorian style or Old New England home restoration fabricating shiz that doesn't excist anymore!

How many people really know how to handcraft a wooden boat? I've visited the school (tourist) and the work they do is awesome. Beyond description. So cool.

I haven't visited this school yet, but I want to. These guys will take a bunch of trees and work them into timber frames for houses. Too cool.

Relocate to the PNW. Lots of cool stuff up here. Build log homes for retiring baby boomers in Montana and Wyoming during the summer, in the winter repair wooden boats in the Puget Sound.

Still hard to phathom how much was created in the past from tools you didn't have a trigger to pull.

There are still crews up here doing timberframing with few power tools. Chainsaw mostly. It's enjoyed a resurgence among the wealthy. Harrison Ford has a timberframe lodge south of here with a private airstrip for his Cessna Caravan. Up near CDA lake there are several multi-million dollar timberframe lodges owned by the wealthy with an outdoorsy mindset. Even factory built timberframe homes are pricey.

Luxury log cabins is a small but steady market all over the PNW. There are several boutique builders based out of Missoula. The work is there if you have the background and the skillset.

Now if you have big bucks you'll snap up all those 20 to 30 acres lots out near Kamiah and build your own line of timberframe lodges for the wealthy from California.
