2003 Irc

I have a lame question. Im just wondering if the ICC made alot of code changes between 2003 and 2006. A friend of mine wants to sell me some IRC training videos but they were from 03. Just wondering from you code knowledgeable people if they are almost the same.. Thanks.

Re: 2003 Irc

The importance of the changes depend on whether you are concerned about one specific area or are a generalist. There some major and traumatic changes in some area that may not be around when the 2006 is replaced, but they are part of the code now.

The ICC members and inspectors are still trying to sort out changes and apply them to the local situations, so this variable exists as usual and some state have skipped the 2003 and are in 2006.

If you interested in buying videos, I would assume you are interested in the complete code. I suggest buying a copy of 2006 IRC now, rather than later so you can determine the changes in the area you are concerned with. The changes from the old versions are usually noted so you can place the two side-by-side.

I prefer the CDs, but it is certainly easy to put the books side-by-side.

Re: 2003 Irc

If this is your first adventure into getting your head around the code, might as well take the bargain on the 2003 videos. That will pretty much lay the whole code foundation for you; for a good price. Buy the 2006 hard copy text also, that way you can see what changes might effect you. The majority of the code is the same from update to update, and it's just a few things that change here and there. Words get shifted around and clarified, some things get added, and some things get deleted. This effects you, for sure, but the bulk of the foundational text remains very much the same or similar.

If you have the 03 book you can purchase an update book. I have one from Thompson --an ICC update its call Sigificant Changes 2006 edition. Its very legible and thorough gives you the random changes in the book by purpose like planning, foundations, wall construction, gas, electric, ect.... look into it
