The short answer is yes.

Theoretically that works.
Question is, are you building a theoretical house?

Re: 16" On Center Rafters - Blocking 14.5 Inches?
It's not too bad of a question. I think we've all cut a lot of something which we thought would work out and it didn't.
Don't cut all of your stuff at once. Sure, you're supposed to have 14 1/2" in there. But if there is a 1/16th of space on each side, then you've got 1/8" per block, and this adds up over 50' to 50/16th or 50/8ths. You don't want to deal with either of these. So cut some in advance and keep an eye on your total distance. If it's not the same as the distance on your wall, then start taking some off of your blocking. |

Re: 16" On Center Rafters - Blocking 14.5 Inches?
If your rafters are all 1 1/2" thick and you've got perfect layout, go ahead. Except for the ones that don't have that spacing...
Blocking is a good way of using up shorty ends - you don't use as many full-length sticks... Mac |

Re: 16" On Center Rafters - Blocking 14.5 Inches?
Yes I am new here and I consider myself pretty handy with tools, but it is imposible to know everything, so I found this cool site and it seems people know was up. I am just building a 10x 20 patio and need some advice. I just wanted to save some time not measuring each block space. It gets tiring up and dwon a ladder.
So the correct size is 14.5 inches? |

Re: 16" On Center Rafters - Blocking 14.5 Inches?
The reason you're getting so much crap is because you just walked in here and asked, "If I take 1 1/2" away from 16", do I get 14 1/2" inches?
We're hoping that if you're using power tools, you can figure out at least that much w/o asking for help on the internet... Mac |
