Tiling Fields For Water Drainage


farmers in the midest call tilers, to tile for field drainage to make their fields drain better so they have better yields on their crops. let me know if you've heard of it before

I've heard of farmers, tilers, fields, field drainage and crops, but never the midest.

It has been around for many, many years and a very profitable way to use land. - I think the original poster was refering to the Midwest and not midest. Originally, they use clay drain tile with open joints made from good old local clay.

That heavy, black Iowa soil takes time to reduce the misture to a good agricultural level. Too much drainage too fast is not good for crops, people or buildings. - This is a very sound system.

Ye ive herd that it was quite a popular method for farmers as it was a very effective drainage system not to sure on how popular it is now i think some people still use it.

Tile draining fields is a very common practice here in Ontario and there are several contractors with specialized equipment who make a living at it (and a good living, I think). I know lots of farmers who have had it done and could ask them whatever questions you may have. What kind of info are you looking for?
