Window Boxes On Vinyl Siding

Can anyone tell me if there is a reason to not lag bolt window boxes onto vinyl siding? Seems like as long as you bolt through and hit some studs and then caulk the top and edges around the box to seal it in you'll be fine. I've had a dozen or so customers address concerns about drilling through their vinyl siding though, so I want to make sure I haven't overlooked something silly and obvious.

You can install about any thing over the vinyl siding. When the object is removed the siding that was covered will be a different color after a few years. We drill holes into the shadow at the bottom of the lap of the siding to attach any thing.

Think about how many millions of shutters are mounted to siding in exactly the same way.
No problem.

aren't the proper procedures for hanging (some) shutters to drill a 3/8" hole through the vinyl where the shutter screw penetrates? Some shutters have vinyl clips, which clip onto the vinyl siding versus screwing into the wall.

yep and then flash under the siding where the hole is down over the lock of next lower panel
there is a county here in fl. that will look for that , same with lower window corners , and flashing above windows of course ,

and they will fail inspection if not done the right way
