Re: What Kind Of Truck Set-up Are People Using?

I took 16' flat bed trailer and welded racks 5' above the deck. Picks and pumpjacks go on top. Ladders and short picks go on the lower deck. 16' of tool boxes along the side to hold braces, guns, chaulk etc. A 10' brake hangs on the side that folds down. This is mounted with 2'' tubing. This took two years to figure out the correct angle and height. I added a bench to the top of the brake.

I use a 20' haulmark trailer which I really love (though sometimes it is a lil' big). Couldn't get everything I need at a jobsite without it! How does your 1/2 do pulling it loaded? I'd be a bit sketched with the transmission but if you have no troubles good on ya. I got a 1ton diesel for mine. I've posted pics before but I'll get one or two on this thread for y'all.

My business partner has been using his 14' cube van like the above post and he has his brake on the floor under shelving just like paul100 does. Doesn't take anytime to slide it out and support it with a sawhorse. Although I do like having my brake setup permanently in my trailer.

The pics make it look like I'm organized! It's pretty clean as there are a few tools already setup outside. Every few weeks I try and clean and maintain it as the longer you leave it the harder it is clean! Since I took these I got lights and power setup inside so I can keep it partially heated for my batteries and caulking.

The Little Giants(3), set where the coil is setting, when all loaded up. The 24' plank holds them in place. Trailer is a '03 24' H&H, $5500 new.

180,000 miles and going strong, It squats a bit when loaded with a bunch of windows. I bought the truck new in Feb 2001, then later bought the trailer in September, but it has worked out. I am planning the upgrade to 3/4 ton crew cab, with probably a short bed within the next 6 months.

Is it legal to pull your trailer with that truck? I thought they'd have to be bulked up to haul a load like that around. I think that's how it is here in BC. I guess if it's empty you'd be alright.

So, so far trailers seem to be the favorite choice? I'm on the fence about new enclosed trailer or box truck. 20' seems too long to easily get in and out of driveways. Do you guys ever have that problem?

Here you go. The brake swing s down, and the chains hold it level. We tried it without chains and it hung low. As you lift it up the tubing that holds the brake slides into a reciver. Two hitch pins slide behind the tubing. Chains are also welded to these to prevent losing them. If I did it again I would build a 100% alum. trailer. No painting or rust. The work bench is made up of alum. angle and bolted to the brake. 3/4'' painted plywood sit on top. A good place to put cutter, formers, and scrap. The coil holder is welded to alum. pipe and slides in the alum. tubing at the end of the brake. Working on a place to hang the slitter. Mentalbender has a good set up too. Everything out of the weather.

The only thing that sucks about having the brake in an enclosed trailer is its a PIA to bend facia and rake. But if your just making windows its ok.

Never got a ticket for improperly vehicle. Been warned for speeding. I'm curious why would it make a difference? I've seen guys hauling trailers with minivans. Granted not a 20' trailer but still.

More curious, why three mitre saws? Interior Trim, Exterior Trim, and aluminum? Just a guess.

Your setup looks really good. Where do your ladders go?

Right on. I open the side door, stick it out and rotate it. Had a brake on either side at one time. Faster, but took up to much space. And to answer another ? , yes steep drives are a problem. We work mostly new construction, and rural areas. Cities are a problem with a 24' trailer for sure.
