What is the going rate?

I'm looking to change some exterior doors. The jobs would consist of removing old 3/0 exterior and replacing with new 3/0 prehung.I will be leaving it ready for painter, unless they ask me to paint as well.

Can anyone from So.Fla. tell what the going rate is.

Thanks for comments.

Check at any Lowes or Home Depot and go from there.

That is a good idea. Pretend you don't know anything about installing doors and ask for an estimate.

If he doesn't know the "going rate" then he's not pretending....

I laugh out loud every time I see a new "what is the going rate" thread.

The Lowe's/HD install price is a good starting point. Beware, however, that this price includes NOTHING extra that a regular door installer would include in their price, such as RO modification, capping/caulking, lockset install, re-install of interior trim, etc. They'll bang you for extra $$ on every little thing. So when the customer says, "Wow, your price is high-Home Depot said they will install it for $" you can point this out. Just get a look at the job before bidding to make sure you include everything.

If you are going to try to come up with a price based on your hourly rate, roughly figure how long it will take you to install. Also, consider the time that you spend on the original estimate, time to order and pick up the door and any extra material, and time to take the old door to the landfill.
