What Did Andersen Use On Their Patio Door Exteriors?
A retired guy contacted me, wanted me to look at his Andersen sliding patio doors. The house was built in '92 and the doors were new then. He first noticed 12 years later than the bottom corners of the door exterior skins were peeling off- all four of them facing west. Andersen wouldn't warranty them as they were 2 years out of warranty then so he lived with them for another four years until he contacted me. The skin that's peeling/rotting off looks like some kind of paperboard, not sure what it is. Anyone know? The wood frame underneath is still in decent shape.
Thanks, Dustin |

Re: What Did Andersen Use On Their Patio Door Exteriors?
The exterior peeling material is a urethane base paint finish. Andersen's contemporary sliding doors back then were vinyl clad, and their French swinging and French sliding door panels were not vinyl clad but instead were simply painted. The frames were clad, but not the actual door panels themselves.
They still make them that way but also now have other options available. |
