Re: What Causes This To Happen ?

I've been a painter for 23 years and that is the main reason that I do not like vinyl siding. That is cause by molding paint and paint failure under the siding. Cheap siding, especially light colored stains easy from the back to the front. When siding is sold, the surface you are going over must be clean and painted. Siding companies dont like to sell the paint section as most people will not paint then side so it gets undersold then the crappy and moldy paint gets worse over time and that is the result of it!

I sell more exterior jobs based on siding failure then just telling them that paint costs 1/3rd of siding.

What did I miss here? I thought this was siding over fire rated gypsum.Just for poops and giggles what type of housewrap was used? Please don't say there is no housewrap, felt paper, foil faced kraft paper, etc. please.

Alan Hoying says he's not convinced that this is thermal bridging but has suggested foam underlayment as a posible solution.

Regular cleaning schedule was also suggested by the ABC rep.

Was this ever figured out? This is really an interesting topic here, educational for those who care anyway.
