Wavy Siding

What is the best way to stop lap siding of any kind from waving from stud to stud? Is plywood or osb the preferred sheathing when using lap siding?

Re: Wavy Siding

1/2" insulation should do the trick. Of coarse the siding should be loosely nailed. The nailes should penetrate through the insulation, sheating and into the studs. The siding should basically just hang on the nail.

Re: Wavy Siding

Eyeball down each course of siding then use scrap strips of foam or even strips of cardboard cut from your siding boxes to fur out uneven studs. If the wall is really bad you can use lathes
It takes time but shows quality in your siding jobs.

Re: Wavy Siding

my exierience has been you can only shim so much before you start getting problems with corners and window and soffit its easy to say foam and cardboard shims but ive had wall change course to courseits not so much the studs sometimes but the sheathing between them
