Vinyl soffit span... what backing OC?

Hi everyone. Im curious what others fasten their soffit backing at. Im installing soffit under a deck (about 7 feet span), and I am wondering what common practice is for installation of backing. Currently I am running my plywood rainscreen strips at about 30" OC for 8" wide soffit panels (D4 soffit).

Common practice I have found is to not span your soffits more than 3 feet without backing, therefore 30" OC should be acceptable.

I already know that the Vinyl Siding Institute reccomends not spanning your soffits more than 16" without backing, however Im curious as to what industry standards are in other places.

Im in Vancouver BC.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

So how much money do you feel you're saving by doing less than what the manufacturer suggests? Is their a reason you don't follow directions?

Who installs the backing for the soffits... the siding contractor or the framer?

Our standards in Vancouver has been the framer for most parts although the last few years they get "too busy" and we are forced to "throw it in".

The vinyl soffit spans between nailers depend on thickness of the material and tinsel strength. Economy and most triple 4 universal soffit should be nailed at 12`` oc while d-5 can span 24``. Certainteed Iron Max can span 36``. 3/8 cdx is not considered a nailer. No vinyl soffit can span 4 ft.

Alcoa Aluminum soffit can span 4 ft. Steel soffit can span 5 ft.
