Vinyl Siding Brands

I'm trying to decide on a vinyl siding brand and I'm not sure what to do. My normal lumberyard has GP Vinyl that they are pushing on me and it looks good, but my vinyl windows rep says that it is junk. Any thoughts on this? The customer doesn't care what it is, just that they want to pick a premium color.

Any thoughts?

ALL LUMBER YARD SIDING = JUNK look for alside CHARTER OAK or alcoa GRAND SIERRA or LIBERTY ELITE. you may also try CRANE INSULATED SIDING. CHARTER OAK has a drop in insulation that has the same profile as the siding = stronger siding, flatter walls=nicer job the name of the insulation is THEARMAWALL from alside.any thing but lumber yard siding that stuff should be outlawed

We have installed ONLY insulated vinyl now for several years, and my coice is Norandex Polar Wall by Reynolds. Kinda pricey, but it installs beautifully. Only hang up is new construction windows with the 3/4 or 1 inch channel around the window requires stripping the new window out slightly to make it level with the siding since the Polar Wall is nearly 1-1/4 thick.

Crane Board (insulated) would be my choice. Norandex Polar Wall is nice stuff though. Heartland make a great product for the price if you are looking to step down the price a bit.

I like Revere. Some of the brands, watch out for. They are distributer/installer only stuff. You won't be able to get the same in the future if you need it.

carpej; Around here in michigan, for your common house lots of us use a product made by Wolverine its called american legend and is one steep higher than there encore brand. I think it's $60 a square give or take. (most time I dont look at price just charge it to boss) This stuff hangs very rigid and if nailed right can almost get rid of the waves you get on some old house. And best of all the price is right and the there colors match the coil stock

Crane is excellent if you (or client) aren't concerned with price, otherwise I use Wolverine and Certainteed.

As far as I am concerned all vinyl siding is junk. But my honest opinion on brands is use the cheapest one you can buy because it will be torn off to be replaced with real siding 10-15 years down the road anyways.

Always use 16ft Royal woodlands, have used Alcoa and Certainteed as well these would be my preference in order. Havent used crane or heartland yet cause Im tired of my suppliers picking up and dropping products every 6 months and thats there most recent push.

Siding reply

I have been an installer for years. My pick of the crop would definitely be the Alcoa structure panel. It has numerous colors to choose from in there dream color option. It comes in many different reveals and can handle gail force winds when installed properly. The ingle 7" panel is the one the one to buy. It looks like James Hardie and can handle elements like any other product on the market today.Spendy, but permanent!

Installed quite a bit of Certainteed. The Monogram is a great looking Vinyl. I believe the next one down is Mainstreet, which is also decent. Alsides top of the line also impressed me, although I cant remember the name of it.

There are many different brands and everyone will tell you what there favorite is. When picking out vinyl siding the thickness is what is most important in my opinion. I would bet that lumber yard is trying to sell you an .044 panel and all those panels are junk. I agree with the other guy on here that all vinyl is junk but if I were installing it I would price a few different panels in your area based on the thickness of the panel.
