special order siding
I'm ordering siding in a non-stocked color of J channel and the supply house requires full box orders. Not that big of a deal with needing say 37 pcs and 40 makes a full box, but if I only needed say 10 pcs, 40pcs is a lot of material to throw away. Do some of your suppliers work with you on odd orders such as this?

I think it's up to the wholesaler your supplier works with. If I only needed 10 I would either ask the supplier to find another wholesaler for your needs or use another supplier for that order. Someone should be able to help you out.

Yes, we have many times over the years bought more material than needed because it was special order. No, we do not keep this stuff. Your talking about chump change. I know a guy who gave away half a trailer full of Heartland high temp Olive vertical siding. He had to buy full trailers of this and ended up with a bunch of this stuff. This is still chump change at $10,000.00 considering the size of the project.

I wish it was white-HO want's Cameo for trim but the J needed is Terra Cotta. I'm a little hesitant about the color combo-put this together with a new roof in Hickory on a tudor style house!
SG's a special order, didn't try Qualtiy since they're in Lewes. I'm getting materials through Lansing Bldg-they're giving me 10%+ off SG's prices, but I've got to get it right when ording the quantity. I'll just throw the extra in the trash-no room to store 'Terra Cotta' for years to come! I figured if I have to drive a distance for the material, the gas and time would defeat the cost savings of the J I'll be tossing.
softtop-how did that warped corner deal workout?

What color is the window trim? We solved this entire problem by eliminating vinyl J channel all together. It looks like crap anyways

3 1/2" lineal in the color 'cameo'. I've stopped using J around the window openings and build up and wrap or use lineals, not even offering the lesser J install. So far, the HO's have seemed to like the extra attention to detail :-)

What brand of siding are you using? I used Mastic Terra Cotta on a job last summer and used there inside corners.
