Siding Without Corner Boards

Hey, I am new to this forum. I am doing some research on siding styles / techniques and have found that I like the hardie plank look without corner boards. I have attached two pictures of a house that uses this style. The boards butt in an alternating pattern up the corner of the house. The seams are caulked. I asked a local installer if additional flashing was needed on the backside and he said no.

Could anyone way in on this technique with regards to sealing the box and exactly how it is installed.

Thank you,

Stuart

Re: Siding Without Corner Boards

Never done hardie but lots of experience with leaks, no way I'd do that without flashing the corners first. Caulk is a maintenance item, owners are bad at maintenance.
