I'm looking for vinyl siding that looks like asbestos shingle? Anyone know about it?

Re: Siding Type

There is fibercement siding that looks like asbestos shingle, to replace broken asbestos.

no one really likes the look of asbestos so vinyl companies don't make it.

Re: Siding Type

If your trying to replace an asbestoes (cement board) sidewall shingle post a picture. I have a bunch of that stuff stashed some where. Our last jobs were installed in the late 70`s and then sudenly it became a heath hazzard.

Re: Siding Type

I'd like to slap him in the head. He says that's what he wants and if we can find it then forget about it. I've seen some stuff similar to it but can't remember where.

Re: Siding Type

The Certainteed D-7 and all the other vinyl shingles wont have a 14 inch lap height like asbestoes shingles. Cedar sidewall shinggles are the closet match to real asbestoes siding. Theres all kinds of vinyl that looks like cement board planks but none that look like asbestoes shingles that Im aware of.

Why does you customer like such a tall course height ? Ask him why and then you can purposly make a sugestion or two that he will object to so you can get him to tell what he doesnt object to. At this point act very concerned and get another small objection like color and let him tell you what colors he likes. Once he starts telling you what he likes start nodding yes if you like what he is telling you and let him keep talking. Keep playing this game until he is happy and signs up. Try to get a small down payment so he knows he bought a job.

Re: Siding Type

He's probably thinking of the cedar shake type of vinyl siding. I guess he saw it at a home and garden show and fell in love.

I don't recall anything being mentioned about the 14" lap.

I do recall the question being "I'm looking for vinyl siding that looks like asbestos shingle? Anyone know about it?"

In essence I answered the question as best the question could be answered, without offering condemnation or disparity about the OP or the HO.

Asbestoes shingles have their own unique look with a 10 - 14 inch lap exposure on course heights. There is no vinyl or polymer siding that resembles this. I dont feel my comment about this subject was any thing but helpful.
