Re: Siding Cost ?

In the last few years, we have installed only polar wall/Norandex siding...insulation is on the siding. Soffits and facia is by the foot, basic coil stock trim is included...and please remember, this is the pricing in my area....and I am at the top price wise..we still have hacks out running around with a ladder or 2 installing Lowes cheapo crap for $40 a sq. and it looks like a cheap job with $40 a square siding.

Re: Siding Cost ?

Joasis, obviously you like that kind of siding. I'm not a fan of it. Have you had any problems? I have heard delamination is a common issue where the insulation on the back actually breaks off the siding. I suppose once installed this doesn't mean much, but I am always hesitant to try new things until they are time tested.

We are charging $175 labor only, no trims, no caps, no wraps, no insulation, no tyvek.

Re: Siding Cost ?

I'm not in the siding business, but i'm hiring a company to side my house. They suggest Norandex Great Barrier 44 mil.,but said I can pick whatever brand, thickness, type of vinyl I want for the same price give or take a few bucks.Since this is not my area of expertise, what would you put on your house or suggest?

Re: Siding Cost ?

.044 is a decent thickness of siding and IMO anything thicker isn't necessary unless there is some color of feature you want in the thicker sidings. Norandex makes a decent siding over all so I wouldn't worry.

There is more to siding than just the thickness. Thickness is only one factor. You want to learn more about the siding. Does it have any UV protection? Is it solid or reinforced vinyl (solid vinyl is better IMO because of the one piece construction).

Re: Siding Cost ?

The polar wall we install gains an R8 value (claimed) and we have siome that was installed 4 years ago, still looking beautiful. It lays flat, covers imperfections in the sides of the house, and is rigid...sets well. In my area, hail is the wipe out factor on siding...I don't know if the extreme cold in your area Grunpy would make it seperate..but I doubt it.

One thing about the price of siding and install..the next group of specs I am building will get brick instead of Polar Wall due to the price increses in siding make brick feasable.

Re: Siding Cost ?

Aagain it is market. The brick cost .40 a piece, and 6000 to do the house (small home)...labor = brick price....brick makes a better sell on the spec home and adds value. I am having our metal supplier do a special trim set up for the soffits and facias, and we will have no coil trim at all (or paint)...

Re: Siding Cost ?

Norhtern Minnesota cheap hacks will put vinyl on for about 60 a square, any reputable sub will want between 100 and 150.

Re: Siding Cost ?

Norandex Great Barrier is good stuff-you can't go wrong IMO.

As for Polar Wall "IT IS THE BEST" Period.

Wish more of our customers would go with it.
