Thanks Tom, I can hardly believe it myself. It's turning out way better than what I had originally planned.

Seems like you have the technique all worked out for the lower section of the house.

I can't believe it's the same place. Really looking sharp

The arched door openings really look nice. It was worth the extra time to make them. I don't want to know what a 16" wide piece of Aztec goes for.

looking nice! Is that a shadow line on the corners I see on picture #8? Can't see it on picture #3, could be the angle of the sun. If so, provide a closer shot-would like to know if it's built up or routed.

I've got my first project with Azek underway-going with the paneled look for a bumpout but still wanting to get ideas before I finish it.

Re: The Siding Chronicles.

do you have enough material to box frame the little window next the entry door? You would lose the siding detail between the door/window, but it would be nice to see them on the same horizontal plane-not to criticize your work though

Thanks Gus, I think the lower level is just getting a coat of paint for now, maybe sometime in the future, after the windows and doors get replaced. I blew the budget on this already, so it'll have to wait.

Thanks paulie, I agree that the arches were worth the time invested. As for the Azek, lets just say a 3 pack was the lions share of Tree-Fiddy.

I was about to demur and say that I don't really want/need to be associated with such an image... but given your track record, I'm sure it will be done with taste and aplomb.

So... given that Azek makes wonderful trim material, have you had any issues with clients worrying about the anti-Green aspect of the chips/sawdust? Or for that matter, any special tricks for cleanup when co-workers carefully set their saws up on a bed of fine colored landscaping gravel?

I'll post up a shot of the corners tomorrow, they got a 2 1/2" overlay on the face of a 1x10 to provide a J-channel for the siding. Gives it a recessed panel effect. A base cap may end up to frame the recess, but not till after the rest of the trim gets finished up.
Here is a few pics of various panel ideas.

I considered that, but I'm not real fond of the wide lineals on a small window like that. The deciding factor was keeping the siding margins around the door and jamb.

Haven't had anybody express any concerns about the PVC dust in their lawns and such, although they seem to get a little peeved when it tracks into the house.
I suppose a dropcloth would not be a bad idea, but I have done well with a shop-vac with a fresh pile of synthetic snow in the past.

Re: The Siding Chronicles.

awesome, awesome, awesome! I love it when you start something and you surprise even yourself when it is done.. that the finished piece is so much better than what you originally planned I think that is the biggest factor in building or working with wood/material. Is vision and modification along the way. It doesn't always go as you planned, but can really surprise you once you get done. Another thing is finally getting your own projects done. Coming home from the work of art you get paid to put together.. to a work in progress is sometimes disheartening. There have been so many times that I have wanted to work on my own place, then when I get the chance have no motivation.

So would you say you have 80-85% done at this point?

Thanks nEighter, I know the deal with lack of motivation at certain times. I haven't had a free weekend for a long time, but I've been able to stay focused up till this point. I'd say I'm 90% done the full scope of the intended project at this point. There is still a lot I want to do, but I have to tie up the loose ends and evaluate the funds before I move on to another phase.

Here is a couple pics that show the detail better. Notice that the "stiles" provide the overlap onto the siding to provide a J.

Great work,

It's always nice to see the extra effort put into a project to keep the use of J from from giving it that "let's just get it done" look!

Hey Lone,
I can't believe that's the same place, looks good.
Have you ever tried heating and bending a 5/4 x 4" piece instead of cutting it out of a 16" piece? I've seen it done but never tried it myself.
