The siding chronicles.

Replacement windows are in, siding starts tomorrow. This project has been 7 years in the making, but now it's go time. Progress pics to follow.

I would try to make the portico larger... while you have the chance.

Yeah, and I dont have much choice. There is 1/2" plywood shear panels on the corners with 1/2" foam over it and 1" foam only behind the remainder of the T-111. The siding is solid and I'm stud nailing the vinyl with 2 1/2" roofers.

I debated on that, but didn't want to get into support issues. I mainly wanted to add a little interest to the wall while keeping it "cosmetic"

I just did the same thing to my house. T-111 sucks ass... I replaced about 10 sheets shortly after I moved in. But even keeping up on the painting--it still falls apart.

I finally gave up and laid over with fiber cement.

Man that is one ugly house. Never did like houses without overhangs. Whatever you do will surely make it look better.

I had 4 sq. of fiber cement left from a job, I considered doing that, but decided to go with a vinyl roughsawn shake profile instead. I really like the look and think it will fit in with the finishing details I want to do with Azek trimboards. I'll post progress pics tomorrow. I feel like an 8 year old on Christmas eve.

It was alot uglier when I bought it, inside and out. Unfortunately I don't have unlimited funds, so I do what I can, when I can. I'm excited about this project because I can use my ideas without having anyone put the kabosh on them.

Lunch time Saturday, all poles reassembled and standing, material on site, shop set up. Time to get something done. Supply yard sent the wrong cornerposts, lost an hour.

End day one. Not a banner day, but walked away with siding 1/3 up on first wall. Barge board and flashing detail took some time, as well as window lineals, but I'm very pleased with the look so far.

You're most probably right, just can't kick the framers mentality.

Finished fascia on side, moved around to front. This afternoon went well, back to the 9 to 5 tomorrow, probably done on this until Tuesday after work.
