Siding On A Block House?
Whats the best way to do this? I live in a cinderblock house which has been a true pain to remodel however now I need to put the vinyl siding up outside whats the best way to do this I have tought about furr strips maybe some insulation board in between or maybe just 3/4 osb sheating around the house first I would like it done correctly however speed is a consideration since I do not have alot of time to work on my own home any insight would be greatly appreciated

Re: Siding On A Block House?
i sided a cinder house a few years back and used 1x4's to fir out and nailed with cut nails. nail into the joints though or your in for a long day. i even double layerd the 1 x's around the windows so i could wrap with aluminum. pretty simple just takes a little thought

Re: Siding On A Block House?
The trick is to install wood strips that are 3/4 inch thick min, so the vinyl siding nail has enough wood to sink into. You will have to install insect screening at the bottom of the wood strips near the ground to stop flying insects from building nests in the cozy space between the siding and the concrete block.
Resist the temptation to install a horizontal wood strip near the ground that touches the vertical furring strips. This horizontal wood strip will block any water that might get behind the vinyl siding panels. Insulation between the furing strips should be installed. using a 22calib nail gun is help full, But cement nails can be used nailing into the joints. windows and doors need furing all around especially were aluminum capping is going to be used. preping is gonna be your slowest and time consuming. I'd prep everything first then when you have time side it! |

Re: Siding On A Block House?
A
Now this something I had to do on both houses with the window sills, cause they were wide and would look goffy trimed out. This was in the proposal to cut them down. That was alot of 7 1/4 masion blades and sawz all blades. Now the one house was a hip roof with no eave and a frize/fascia 1x6" right over the block, so we didnt take that till we got the roof job to run 2x6 over the fascia for a build out. These are the jobs that after 4 days ya say I gota get on to the next one.
