Alright, I'll pay some respects..

Those are some great pics Loneframer. It looks like a helluva lot of hand framing, especially the last pic with all of the hand framed rafters.

How did you build the bow in the ceiling of the first pic?

We don't have too much for custom up here. This is about as extravagant as it gets for new stuff. We did not build this. A friend of ours did, we just shingled it. Our lift stretches 34 feet and it barely reached the eave on the back. 10/12 pitch with 50 year Timberlines. They later ruined the house by using the new cardboard Andersen windows and putting on Hardie siding, soffit, and fascia.

All the ribs were cut out of 3/4 plywood and laminated on site, 2 layers. That house had 5 of those in different sizes. By the way, I also sided that house with Hardie, and did the Azek fascias and soffits. I sided the house with the octagon roof with cedar too. Mostly shakes, some beveled lap. All cedar soffits, fascias and rakes. Shakes were woven on the corners.

Thanks for the honest explanation. I actually should have known that, but my mind doesn't think like a framer very often because I don't do it enough. I haven't seen a new house built for a few years now around here.

You have to understand where I was coming from. The houses in these developments are middle income. On most new houses we made more money roofing and siding them than the framer did to build the whole thing. Most of the framers here are so lazy, they don't put in windows or put on the housewrap. They would put houses up in a week or less.

The one in my pic was a good crew and they took 4 months to frame that, with a Telehandler.

I have seen very few framers that know much about roofing or siding or even flashing. That's why I make a distinguishment (sp) between framers and Carpenters.

As far as being prejudice....you will never stop that in this world, and BTW, it is not illegal

God bless all the good carpenters (and siders too).
I don't give a rat whether you boys are impressed or not, the point is I'm good at what I do and I use photos to get that point across. You can call it bragging if you want, but these photos go out to every job I bid on as assurance to the prospective client that they are not hiring a hack. The people who I do try to impress are my customers and every builder that I've done work for has invited me back, which to me speaks volumes.

I know exactly where you were coming from, I deal with the stereotype on a daily basis. That's why I got my feathers up. I bid against these hacks regularly and it's hard to sell quality to someone who doesn't know the difference. I always install windows and doors on my projects as well as paper in most. 90% of builders here have gone back to #30 felt for drying in, as Tyvek has been problematic in this region. Some of which was faulty installation and flashing details on roofing and siding.
