Siding On 130 Yr Old House

I recently purchased an old farm house approx. 130 yrs old. I am trying to restore it as close as I can to what it was like when it was built. Over the years previous owners lowered 10' ceilings to 8', covered the walls with sheet rock(hate sheet rock), and covered hardwood flooring with carpet. All of that has been torn out and restored, I am now starting on the outside. The plans are to replace old asphalt shingles with metal roofing. The original siding is in very poor condition. I am considering weatherboard or james Hardie siding. Which is better and which style looks more like real wood? Any opinions are appreciated.

Then why not use wood siding?

I have considered that, but I also want low maintenance.

personally i would go with crane solid core siding. they have the 18" panels triple 6" or double 7" that looks like real wood or cedar. then you will achieve the insulation value you will need. bug protection you need, and low matanience on your home! just my two cents

HARDIE PLANKS they come pre finished look like wood but outperforms wood, vinyl and aluminun siding. try www.jamesherdie.com we install vinyl and hardie for a natural look HARDIE is hardie to beat.
