Sheathing Gap At Corners
My current siding job includes installation of factory-made Certainteed PVC corner trim. The walls are sheathed with 1by boards, and the sheathing does not extend past the framing for any wall.... in other words, when I hold a scrap of pvc corner board in place, there's a vertical gap under the corner trim running up its entire length, and the gap is 3/4" square in cross section because the 1by sheathing boards are not butted up one against the other.
Whaddya'll think? Should I do anything to fill that gap before applying housewrap? I'm thinking of at least adding a small bit of PVC scrap to fill the gap at least at the bottom to help keep out vermin and backsplash, since the sill is only 6" above grade. Thanks for your thoughts; I used to offer pennies, but hey - there's a recession on. Steve |

Re: Sheathing Gap At Corners
i usually do an aluminum wrap [6x6] over the tyvek on all my corners and i wrap a ''bug shield'' along the bottom at the starter line under the wrb to close off the sheathing from the foundation

Re: Sheathing Gap At Corners
Just seal the bottom of the corner if there is a small gap. Tom's got a great idea though with wrapping the corner as a bug/insect barrier. Throw that over your Tyvek, tape and side away!!
What kind of siding? Vinyl??

Re: Sheathing Gap At Corners
We do something similar here due to termite issues, but in the framing stage. Use vycor or felt under the sill then staple it up over the sheathing to protect the edge (then Tyvek over). Cut it flush on the interior - cram some diatomaceous earth in when we have it (it's like shards of glass to anything with an exo-skeleton). What do you use for your bug guard?
