Selling Removed Cedar Shingle Siding?

I may pick up a job where we will be removing over 70,000 sf of cedar shingle siding. Is there a market for reclaimed shingles?

Thanks for any help you can give.

You could sell them as shims? Seriously though how long would it take you to remove the shakes so that they were actually usable. take that extra time, and compare it to what you would actually be willing to pay to buy used siding

Well I'm kind of just fishing here - I don't deal in these cedar shingles, so I don't know if there is a market for them somewhere else in the country.

There's just such a volume of them that if there is a use for old cedar shingles it might be worth it to try to salvage.

Tiger, contact every woodworking club you can within a hundred miles. They might come haul the stuff off for free for you. Weathered wood that can be resawn for projects is always in demand. You might also see if there are any specialty or novelty manufacturers in your area that would want the shingles (the kind that makes old fashioned novelty outhouses or signs).

The might make good mulch too. If they do, grind them onsite into a pile and offer it for free, or sell to a landscape wholesaler.

Dont forget to factor in the cost of using a magnet to remove all the nails. Factor even more if there are aluminum nails to be removed. Im sure the last thing someone wants in their mulch are nice sharp nails

If the shingles were not painted they could be fliped over and reused. I wouldnt buy them but some one might.
