Selling/educating

Folks:
I must admit I'm not much of a salesman and there are a couple of other things (at least) that I am not the best adapted to. Hopefully we will can leave the other alone and discuss sales.
Loneframer's recent post of some of the sloppy crap he found causing a homeowner numerous headaches reminded me that good workmanship and honesty is a wonderful sales point. But...you must very clearly communicate to your prospect that you are not going to cut corners to save a buck on THEIR job.
How is this best accomplished? We don't want to sound arrogant, bitter, better than thou, or talk other people's work down. There is a fine line here folks about what is the best way to accomplish this!!

I'm looking for your comments and ideas:
I'll give you an example of my thoughts on the matter. If I bid a job fair and honest and then don't sell it to the homeowner I have failed in two ways.
1) I've let the homeowner down because I have not protected them from any other yahoo that is going to "give" them 10 free windows if they buy at least 10 sq. siding or sells them on seamless siding for the main reason so their house won't mold out because water leaks in all them butt joints on regular siding. Or from some yahoo that cuts corners to save himself some time, you know half assed window flashing, house wrap, whatever...git it done, cover it up...move on to the next kind one.
2) I've let myself and my crew down because we are now out looking for another job somewhere else since I have not communicated well with the prospect. I don't get the job, I don't get the referral, I don't get to park my trucks and signs on that street, I don't get that job with the neighbor
Well, you get the idea, lets hear your comments and ideas.
Thanks, Dave

Re: Selling/educating

Sold one today but it was a small one that will last 3-4 days. Quiet here and no sales=no work. Are you a salesman?
