Angry Scrap aluminum prices vs. aluminum soffit prices

One of my guys just got back from the scrap yard and handed me the reciept for a 458 lb. load.
When I saw that the scrap yard per lb. price was 20 cents I couldnt believe it.
We have been doing so much hardi plank in the last six months that we had'nt cashed in a load of scrap aluminum since August.
Just out of curiosity I dug up the receipt for that load and it was 58 cents per lb.
Is'nt it funny that my prices for a panel of aluminum soffit have not gone down a penny since August?
Time to start beating on our suppliers guys!

Aluminum siding and soffit products, arent a huge seller. Chances are most of the aluminum siding and soffit that your suppliers have is old stock bought when the price of aluminum was on the rise.

Common aluminum items like coil stock and gutter stock have already come down since they buy lots of that stuff and have high turnover.

Suppliers stay pretty competitive, if any one of them could drop the price they would simply to get an edge on the competition.

Yeah Patrick I see your point but aluminum soffit and fascia is still very widely used in my neck of the woods.
I called my Alside rep this morning and vented a little.
He says he is going to re-work my pricing right away and says he will lower my per panel soffit price by about seventy cents which will help.
I'll be talking to my other aluminum suppliers this week!

I don't recycle but my guys take it up there and get a little extra cash.

They have a bunch but like you said it was .63 here a year ago. Now it's low 20's. Who wants to take that big of a hit.

Aluminum and Copper vary from time to time in what they bring in scrap prices, but it takes awhile for the prices to go up on materials and it also takes awhile for them to come back down.

We were getting $3.40 a lb for #1 copper about a year ago, yet when you go buy wire, it didn't have a huge price increase, now that copper is back down in price, I doubt it is much cheaper.

Copper pipe has gone up and down some, but not as drastically as one would think.

The biggest problem with copper and aluminum when prices are up, people steal it and it makes getting a job roughed in difficult.
