Sash Weight Framing/replacement

I have a detached garage addition where the ho wants re-use old dh windows (sash weights) from the house.

Couple of questions..

Any body have an experience replacing the rope/weight with some type of spring (lift assist)?

Or, if not...

Any tips for framing (2x4 wall) to accommodate the weights?

I'm sure I can make them work, just curious to hear of any experiences...(it's raining today)

Thanks!

Looks like about $100/window for the springs... I'll probably just put a nail in the top sash, and make him a nice set of prop rods

You didn't say what the budget was...you can always go with cheap vinyl sash liners...

Thanks Jon. I think the vinyl sash liner is just the ticket for this one.

Yeah, well the budget has been very good on this one. We just ate it all up on the house and addition...

Now on to the garage.. time to pinch it a little
