Re: Rollup Door Spring

Tom,
Have you tried local door companies? I replaced 4 of my home 10 x 8 springs a few years ago, & just picked them up local. They were very reasonable, & were able to match what I had from their stock. They stock all different types, & cut to spec for each door. It would be tough to do that on line.

The local guy will be able

No insult intended.
Having seen the result of a guy
who didn't have the proper respect
for the energy stored in these things
I'm kind of boorishly evangelistic.

The situation was.
The bar he was using spun with the spring
and opened him up from the belt buckle
to the collar bone.
Turns out, there isn't all that much
holding your intestines in after all.

Re: Rollup Door Spring

thanks for sharing-sure it wasn't a pretty site. maybe someone will happen upon this and be reminded of the stored energy in a spring and the damage it can do.

Re: Rollup Door Spring

Tensioning one of those things is terrifying. I made the mistake of releasing the clamp on the bar with a 24" wrench attached. Unless you have done it before you have no idea what that looks like. I was 12" away form having my skull beat to a pulp. It's like sticking you head in a propeller, maybe worse.
