Question

Removing Metal Windows

i'm curious to find out what method everyone is using to remove metal windows with flanges . I use a grind blade to cut down the alluminum or asbestos siding to revale the flange and pull nails .

Chain hooked up to the truck

We did an apartment complex with 325 aluminum windows embedded into limestone Removed the sashes/sliced jambs at angles and pried them out, bucked openings and did the rest of the install as normal.

Very few homes in this area have steel or aluminum windows due to climate. If they do then I either measure for replacements and do what's necesarry to get it all done, or I'll cut the flange off the frame so frame will come out and rebuck it...depends on home and style though of how I approach it.

Re: Removing Metal Windows

We have done replacements where the metal flanges had to be left intact..we used a sawzall to cut the nail flange and used a replacement without flanges.

Re: Removing Metal Windows

we are ding metal windows that have aluminum siding or asbestos over the flange what i have been doing and most of the crews do it is to run a circular saw around the window to expose the flange pull the nails and the window. I was using a cut off blade but this is the third time their has been smoke and as you no where theirs smoke their could be fire we always use a fire extinguisher but I'm to old and want to try a different way . thanks for the advice . I think i will go back to sawsalling the bottom and crowing in the sides like was mentioned then with j and a casing the only problem is were to nail maybe 3/4 under siding j on top pin nail through siding . but i do like the chain to the truck
