recommendation for large vinyl siding

I went to look at a 100+ year old house with 4" wood clapboard. The wood siding is actually in good shape, but the paint is in poor condition with peeling and generally it looks crappy. The HO may be interested in a larger panel, such as 7" profile (vinyl). What's available in straight traditional lap? Since the whole house would need a 1/4" fanboard for the siding installation, would a pre-insulated siding be cost effective (saving fanfold and labor of install)?

ok-a quick search of Alcoa's site yielded the T-lok Barkwood 8" panel, and only comes in white. Any other options?

8 inch T-lok has a hugh overlap and is available only in twelve foot lenghts and in white. This was our main panel back in 1979 - 1983. We used fiber board drop in backer to streghten the siding and keep it from spooning. These jobs still look nice when I drive by.

Certainteed Monogram Dutch Lap in a 20 ft lenght would look nice on an old house.

Alside Charter Oak 4.5 lap or Dutch Lap in 16 ft lenght.

Amcraft 4.5 lap in a 25 ft lenght.

Alcoa Structure

Royal has a seven inch lap that looks kind of like Structure.

I believe Crane offers a D7 panel, if not then Variform.

I used some 16' panels on a house job recently and really liked the outcome. I figured materials cost about 10% more, but having no/fewer seams on high visibility areas was a big bonus (for me anyway). I haven't heard of a Royal distributor around my area, but will look into them.
thanks

Crane offers a triple6 and a double 7 in their oracle line of insulated vinyl.I was a skeptic about such a wide panel but have used both and several years later they still look surprisingly good.

There is a 6 1/2" Beaded panel you can use and it looks real nice and it's something you don't see all the time. I have use it two or three times. It comes in 14 colors. It's Alcoa Charleston Beaded Collection.

funny you mention the carolina bead-I just saw a house redone w/ that product. I'm not a fan of carolina bead siding, but it looks good on certain houses.
